Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Miller) grows in the form of a bush or a tree and is deciduous or evergreen. Its fruits are similar to the ones on olive trees and have the same hard stone, the taste is reminiscent of dates and they come in different sizes and colours. It is mostly an unknown fruit species and is hardly used for nutritional purposes in Istria. Further south in Dalmatia jujube fruits are known as delicious food and constitute a regular supply in some markets ( http://sibenskiportal.hr/2012/09/25/foto-skupe-zizule-na-sibenskoj-pijaci-dobro-se-prodaju/ ). Jujube and its nutritional and medicinal properties are more known and appreciated in China and elsewhere in Asia.
Results of morphological analysis and genotyping as well as nutritional values and antimicrobial activity will be available for the duration of the project.
